A Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your Wi-Fi Router
It’s not as difficult as it appears to set up your new Wi-Fi network. This step-by-step guide will take you through the entire process of setting up your Wi-Fi network for the first time.
Once you’ve identified and purchased the router that best suits your needs, all you have to do now is set it up by following these instructions.
Part 1: Installing the Hardware
How to Connect Your Router to Your Modem:
You must connect your router to your modem in order to share your internet connection with several devices. Ideally, your router should be close to your modem.
An Ethernet cable should be used to connect the modem and router. You should connect your modem to your router’s Internet port/WAN.
Using Ethernet to Connect Your Devices:
Connect your PCs, TV, or video gaming console to the router through Ethernet for a faster and more reliable connection. This will not necessitate any further configuration steps.
If you want to change the settings on your router, you’ll need to connect at least one computer through Ethernet, if not all of them. You can disconnect this device after you’ve adjusted the router settings. Your router must be connected.
Part 2. Configure Your Router
Obtaining the IP Address of the Router:
Look on the label or the box that the router came in to find the default IP address. If you can’t find it anywhere, look for the router’s model number on the internet.
Changing the Options:
Open a browser on the Ethernet-connected device to the router. Enter the router’s IP address and search. Your browser will attempt to connect to the router’s setup menu automatically.
Creating a Username and a Password:
To alter the settings, go to the configuration page first. To do so, go to the IP address of the router. Please provide a valid username and password. It’s in the router’s documentation or on the router itself.
Changing the Wireless Options:
- You’ll see a main menu or screen after logging in to your router.
- Normally, the internet area is left at its default settings.
- In the wireless section, in the SSID field, give your router a unique name.
- Choose WPA2-PSK as the security method because it is the most difficult to crack and the most secure.
- After you’ve decided on a security solution, create a password that’s difficult to guess yet easy to remember.
- Once you’ve completed all of the changes, click Apply to save them.
- It will take a few minutes for the router to finish resetting, after which it will be activated.
Unwanted Websites are Blocked:
- You can prevent your network from accessing unwanted websites to protect your devices.
- To block unwanted websites, go to the router’s Security/Block menu.
- To block websites, type in their domain names or keywords.
